Victoria University

The University

Victoria University (VU) finds its root way back in 1916, when it was named as Footscray Technical School. After travelling a long journey, it merged with Western Melbourne Institute of TAFE in 1998 and was officially renamed as Victoria University in 2005. The university is located in western region of Melbourne. The student base holds impressive figure of 40,000, out of which there are 7000 international students, studying both at campus as well as overseas with university’s partner institutes.

VU has eleven campuses, out of which three are located in Melbourne's Central Business District. Other four campus locations fall within the radius of 10 km from the district. These campuses are endowed with facilities like clubs, associations, medical facilities, gyms and swimming pools. Apart from these facilities, the university also provides sports facilities, along with different social facilities. The basic amenities like food and accommodation are impressive enough for students hailing from national and international locations.

The Business Higher Education Roundtable recognized VU for having Best Community Engagement Collaboration program in 2007. Also, the university’s hairdressing program was given Three Gold Stars, the highest award given by The Institute for Trade Skills Excellence. There are many more awards and achievements earned by the university and its students annually.

The university offers variety of courses to the students enrolling with it. International Student services

VU has managed to employ a team of staff, known as International Student Support, to offer various services to international students. These services include orientation events, airport pick-up, and farewell programs after graduation, tourist trips, counseling and more. Also, the international students can access other services like career advice, financial advice, accommodation and housing support, workshops and various resources for employment.

Accommodation

The university takes deep interest in providing comfortable accommodations to students. This includes the Student Village, located 8 km in Maribyrnong and Sunbury Hall in Sunbury campus of the university. Apart from this, the city of Melbourne has a number of accommodation options for students, which include rental houses, student hostels, shares accommodations and fully-furnished hostels.

Airport Pickup

The students coming from different national as well as international destinations are picked up from the airport and taken to their accommodation places free of cost.

Orientation Meeting

The International Student Support has devised orientation program to welcome the students from various locations at the beginning of semester. The student support systems and various procedures are introduced to the students through these events.

Opportunities to study abroad

The study abroad opportunities offered by the university are not restricted to vocational courses, but the students can get enrolled to any course offered by the university. There are few basic requirements, which must be fulfilled by students haling from countries like India, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Pakistan, Mexico, USA, Saudi Arabia, Germany and Sri Lanka, in order to get enrolled with VU.
