The Edith Cowan University is named after Edith Dircksey Cowan, the first woman to become a member of Australian Parliament. Being the region’s most successful educational destination, this university is approached by students in large number every semester. It is the owner of many research centres of the region as well.
The University
The founding of Claremont Teachers College in 1902 sowed the seeds for the Edith Cowan University (ECU). In following years, a number of training colleges came into existence in the region. All these colleges merged to form Western Australian College of Advanced Education in 1982, which ultimately was renamed as ECU in 1991.
The campus of ECU is located in Perth, Western Australia. It enjoys the status of being the second largest university in the region. There are two other campuses located at Joondalup and Mount Lawley. Yet another campus is located at Bunbury. The university is well-known for offering a variety of courses for national as well as international students.
There are nearly 21,000 students enrolled with the university and 2200 out of them belong to more than 94 locations abroad. The university employs 1700 staff members, teaching and non-teaching, to pay attention to each and every student. There are 28 research centres credited to this university and located in different corners of the region. This makes ECU a reputed university, facilitating learning and research work to go hand in hand.
The university has received a number of state level as well as national level awards for its performance in various fields. The Good Universities Guide has endowed ECU with 5 star ratings in MBA.
Major Areas of Study
The university offers four major faculties, which include Business and Law, Health and Science, Computing, Education and Arts and Regional and Professional Studies. The various courses offered at university are Business, Aviation, Commerce, IT, Education, Multimedia Technologies, Sports Science, Hospitality & Tourism Management, Law and Engineering.

The international students can extract benefits out of study abroad options offered by ECU. This allows the students to join the university for one or two semesters and credit their classes to the home university.
