Charles Darwin University

Charles Darwin University is one of the most popular universities located in Darwin in the northern region of Australia.

The University

The university was established on 1 January 1989 and is believed to be a tertiary university which came into form following the merger of University College of northern Territory and the Darwin Institute of Technology. Charles Darwin University is known to provide both Higher Education and Vocational Education and Training which are better known as VET programs.

Major Areas of Study

Some of the subjects which the university excels in teaching include Creative Arts and Industries which comprise of music, communication, New Media Design. Apart from this, some other subjects which are taught at the university include Business and Commerce, Accounting, Public Governance, Engineering, Environmental Science, Pharmacy, Behavioural Science, Nursing, Information Technology, Law, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies, Exercise and Sports Science, Biomedical Science, Humanitarian and Community Studies. Students also prefer studying subjects, such as Social Work, Business in Tourism Management, Hospitality, Education, Applied Linguistics, Industrial Education and Training, Foundation Studies at the university.

Students who come to the university from different countries can be assured of receiving facilities, such as pastoral care, social and cultural activities, personal counselling and assistance with their career apart from academic support.

Accommodation

Students who are looking for boarding and lodging options within the university can head to North Flinders International House (NFIH) which is located on the University’s Casuarina Campus. This accommodation option is located in close proximity to the library and lecture halls. Moreover, it allows students belonging to different continents to come together and understand each others culture apart from studying together.

Students who prefer to reside off campus also have a number of options to choose from. Students can avail houses on rent with the help of real estate agents. Individuals can avail apartments on shared basis too. However, most of the houses on rent require the students to sign a bond which makes it mandatory to pay at least four weeks rent in advance.

A student can have access to airport pick up facility only on application.

Orientation Meetings

Before the new session kick starts, Charles Darwin University organizes a three day orientation program, which is compulsory for all the new students to attend. The details regarding the orientation program are provided to the new students along with the letter of acceptance.

Opportunity to Study Abroad

Charles Darwin University warmly accepts application from international students who are currently enrolled in degree courses in their own native countries but are interested to spend a year or pursue a course at CDU. Some of the subject options available to international students include Arts, Business, Law, Education, Science and Technology. Some of the other courses offered at the university include Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Studies. The university makes it mandatory for US applicants to complete at least one year in their home university before they fly down to Australia to pursue further studies.
